Donna had always thought she could live with it – until Stan started throwing things at her while she was nursing their infant. That was the last straw.

After checking with some lawyers in the state where the baby was born, Donna knew it was time to get her baby as far away from Stan as possible – the strictly legal way. (Because any other way could have put Donna in very hot water and her baby in harm’s way.)

Stan didn’t make too much noise at first after Donna and their baby fled. But, after a month or so, Stan began making telephoned threats to hurt Donna, got himself a gun (verified by friends), and then started taunting Donna with messages that he was coming to Florida very soon to get her and take up with her and their baby.

Donna and her mother were terrified for themselves and, especially, for the baby. They came to me wanting to know what they could do to keep the baby safe here in Florida and to avoid having to return to Stan's state to legally end their dangerous relatoinship.

Fleeing to safety across state lines with your child almost always creates a complex legal situation.

Fortunately for Donna and her baby, we were able to obtain a Florida court order requiring Stan to stay away from Donna and their baby and awarding temporary legal custody of the baby to Donna. Later, we were able to obtain a permanent order awarding sole legal and physical custody of the baby to Donna - with no visitation to Stan.

Now Donna can sleep nights again.
